Technical SEO & Page Performance Optimization
Client: Carlton Pools
Goal: Increase Visibility
Strategy: Technical SEO

Strategy
Our recent quarterly audit of Carlton Pools’ website prioritized a deep technical diagnostic over immediate content updates. This “foundation-first” approach ensures that performance bottlenecks aren’t actively sabotaging our keyword and visibility strategies.
The audit surfaced several significant issues. The most impactful was image bloat: the page was carrying far too many images, many of which were oversized and not being served in a modern format. We addressed this by auditing and reducing the overall image count, right-sizing each asset, and converting images to the .webp format. This is a modern, compressed file type that browsers load much faster than traditional JPEGs or PNGs.
We also identified a number of legacy JavaScript files that were still loading on the page from old theme installations. These scripts had no active function as they weren’t powering any features or interactions, but they were still being parsed and executed by the browser on every page load, adding unnecessary overhead with nothing to show for it. Removing them cleaned up the page’s load behavior considerably.
Each of these fixes — leaner images, modern formats, and a stripped-down script stack — directly feeds into the signals Google uses to evaluate page experience. With the technical dead weight cleared out, the page was positioned to perform the way it should.
Results
The technical improvements had a direct and measurable impact. Core Web Vitals scores increased dramatically, reflecting a page that now loads faster, responds more quickly, and delivers a better experience to every visitor. These are all qualities that Google actively rewards in its rankings.
With those scores in a strong position, the page began ranking more competitively in search results. Here’s what drove the turnaround:
- Image optimization dramatically reduced page weight by right-sizing assets and converting them to .webp, cutting load times without sacrificing visual quality.
- Legacy script removal eliminated unnecessary JavaScript left over from old themes, reducing browser processing time and cleaning up the page’s performance profile.
- Core Web Vitals improvement gave the page a strong page experience signal, directly supporting its ability to compete in search rankings.
- Stronger search rankings followed as a result — the page is now performing consistently well in organic results, putting Carlton Pools in front of more qualified prospects.
This engagement was a clear example of how technical health and search performance are directly connected. Fixing what was slowing the page down gave Carlton Pools a competitive edge they can build on.
